Did You Know? - Interacting With Discussions Using Email
Posted by Denis Ahearn on September 09, 2010
Today's "Did You Know" highlights the capability within OnePlace for interacting with your discussions using email. If you're like me, then you have OnePlace running all day long on your computer, and you check it regularly for new messages and updates. You see new messages almost as soon as they are posted.
Well, not everyone works this way. Some people prefer to start up OnePlace, check for updates, and then shut it down, and they do this a few times a day when it's convenient for them. Perhaps this is how you like to work. Well, what happens when someone posts a message in a discussion that you belong to, but you don't notice it for a few hours or worse, a few days? Probably not the best thing.
Well, there is a solution to this problem, and it works using something that most if not all of us use and monitor frequently - our good old friend email. There is a user preference within OnePlace labeled "Send new discussion messages to my email". If you check this option, then each time someone leaves a new message in a discussion that you are participating in, OnePlace will kindly ship you an email containing the message. You will get the email almost as soon as the message is posted. Great, no more missing valuable talk in your discussions!
But what if you want to reply to that message, do you need to fire up OnePlace to do that? Nope, just click the Reply button in your email program, and reply to the message like you would any other email. The email is configured to send the reply to OnePlace, which will grab your reply and place it into the flow of the discussion. It's that simple!
So, for those occasional OnePlace users out there, why not let OnePlace inform you via email of when you have new discussion messages? Just set your "Send new discussion messages to my email" preference, then sit back and enjoy staying in the loop!
