New Feature - Importing Tasks

Posted by Denis Ahearn on June 11, 2010

We rolled a new feature into production last night - the ability to import tasks from a CSV file. This is something that combined with the "Export Tasks" feature can provide a powerful way to quickly and easily edit multiple tasks at one time.

The work flow goes like this:

  1. Export a set of tasks from OnePlace to a CSV file.
  2. Open the CSV file using a spreadsheet application like Microsoft Excel or Mac OS X Numbers. A plain old text editor will do nicely as well.
  3. Modify the tasks in the spreadsheet.
  4. Save the spreadsheet back to CSV.
  5. Import the updated CSV file into OnePlace.

Wala, your changes are applied with a single action!

Of course if you prefer, you can construct the CSV file from scratch and import that. OnePlace allows you to create new tasks this way, as well as update existing tasks (provided you supply the ID of the tasks you want to update).

So, if you're looking for a quick way to bulk update some tasks, I recommend taking a look at the import/export capabilities within OnePlace. And if you're interested in learning more about these features, please visit the Importing and Exporting Tasks section in the online Help.

This feature was the result of a customer request. Do you have something in mind to add to OnePlace? If so, please let us know!
