OnePlace Gets a True Calendar

Posted by Denis Ahearn on May 19, 2010

CalendarOnePlace has always had something that's been labeled as a "Calendar", however it was strictly a view for scheduling your work. You couldn't put events on this calendar, nor could you view things a month at a time. Well, with last night's upgrade of OnePlace, I'm happy to report that these limitations no longer exist! OnePlace has a brand spanking new calendar that gives you the familiar looking monthly view, and the ability to view events, tasks and projects for when they are scheduled to occur.

The new monthly calendar view is shown below:

Calendar

You can customize the view of your calendar by using the settings in the gray sidebar on the left side of the calendar. You can elect to show/hide events, projects, task deadlines and scheduled tasks. You can also show/hide completed tasks and projects.

To add something to the calendar, either click the "Add" button in the sidebar, or, hover over a day in the calendar and click the little green "+" icon that appears. You can add events, projects and tasks to your calendar.

This view blends together information across all the workplacs that you are a member of. While this is great to give you a birds eye view of what's going on in your OnePlace world, at times it may be too much information. No problem, you can easily hide information from select workplaces by un-checking (hiding) those workplaces in the Calendars lists in the settings sidebar.

OnePlace also provides a way for you to publish your scheduled events to external calendars such as Outlook, Google Calendar, and any other calendaring application that supports the standard iCal format. You can do this by turning on the iCal feed for your calendar. Simply click the iCal feed link in the settings sidebar, and a dialog will pop up allowing you to turn on the feed, and providing you with the feed url that you can enter into an external calendar application.

If you are wondering "Where did my old Calendar go?", don't worry, that view is still there. The ability to schedule your work is now under the "Scheduled Tasks" tab in the calendar. This view provides the exact same functionality as the old OnePlace calendar.

We also added a new Calendar view down inside of a workplace. If you go into a workplace, you'll see a new Calendar tab that provides access to a similar calendar view, but is focused only on information belonging to that workplace.

This is only version one of the new OnePlace calendar. We have plans to make it even more useful, by adding features like a weekly view, repeating events, and being able to assign colors to each calendar (i.e. workplace). We hope you like this new addition to OnePlace, and as always please let us know what you think about it.

Happy Calendaring!

THANK YOU! I'm new to OnePlace and have not fully integrated it yet in working with my team. I use Google for most things now (since I bought my Android) and I really wanted a "calendar-looking" calendar within OnePlace that would sync with my Google calendar to show projects and tasks.

You guys just removed a major road block for me on my OnePlace journey. Thanks!

Dana
