Stay Productive and Efficient When Springing Forward
Posted by Dana Larson on March 15, 2010
For most of the United States, yesterday marked the start of Daylight Savings Time - the wonderful time of year when we set our clocks forward one hour and suddenly it is much lighter in the evening. Now we can go out for walks on a nice Spring evening, or just enjoy the fact that it is no longer dark out when we are heading home from the office.
The hardest part of the switch to Daylight Savings time every year is the event of “Springing Forward” - where we effectively lose an hour to our day. This can cause people to feel a little behind during the Sunday on which we change our clocks, to feeling sleepy the next day at work.
Here are a few tips to stay productive when moving to Daylight Savings Time:
Find Coffee Promotions - If you are a fan of caffeine, odds are a local coffee shop is offering a coffee discount or add-on today. Our local favorite chain, Caribou Coffee, offers a free extra espresso shot in all drinks today to keep customers awake and productive.
Exercise - It’s true that some workouts make you feel more tired, but a lunch-hour walk can increase your blood flow and give you a nice break to attack the afternoon with vigor.
Schedule Your Work - If you are feeling a little “foggy” today, try to schedule your tasks and complete them one by one. This will make you feel more productive by seeing your workload go down as you accomplish each task.
Plan You Day Optimally - Make sure that items you have to accomplish today are the ones you will be able to do well. If meetings make you feel unproductive, don’t schedule meetings for today. If you aren’t the best at data analysis, plan to complete that task tomorrow.
Eat Well - Don’t consume too much sugar to feel a boost today. You will feel much better later on in the afternoon if you eat a well-balanced breakfast and lunch. Make sure to include proteins, vegetables and fruits to keep your energy up.
We hope that today is the most productive it can be while we adjust to losing a hour to our day yesterday. Good luck!
