Facilitating a Positive Attitude at Work

Posted by Dana Larson on November 01, 2010

Let’s face it - not everyone is in a positive mood all the time. We all have bad days, it’s true, and sometimes we let that interfere with our productivity and our work environment. But it’s important to make sure others aren’t too impacted by a bad mood on rare occasions.

Also, many businesses these days are focusing on positive attitudes and good moods and trying to keep their workplaces upbeat. Smiles can increase productivity, collaboration and business success, and many companies want to facilitate these attitudes to keep their business moving forward.

So, how can you keep your employees positive? Here are a few tips for a happy work environment.

Stay Positive Yourself
Positivity breeds positivity, and making sure that you perpetuate this attitude in your workplace means others will pick up on it and be positive as well.

Build Strong Relationships With Your Teammates
Your coworkers don’t need to be that stranger who sits next to you, or the people with whom you complain about work. Get to know them and their personal lives as much as you can, and use that to connect with them and keep them focused on good things in the face of the negative.

Send Out Motivational, Happy Quotes
It may sound cheesy, but a good quote can stay with someone. Each morning, send out a happy, funny or motivational quote to your entire team. They may print them out to keep them happy for years to come.

Hire Happy People
Why would you want to bring a negative person to your team? When interviewing, pay attention to their attitude, how they talk about their past positions, and even ask them if they would consider themselves a positive person. This is key to building a strong, happy team.

Enjoy Team Building Activities
Not all team building activities need to include lame trust falls. You can connect with your team on many levels, including just sitting back and chatting. Keep the mood light, talk only about happy, positive topics, and your team will leave feeling more connected than ever.

By keeping yourself and your team members positive, your work will be done more effectively. This can only serve to benefit your business overall, and your employees will love coming to work that much more.
